Wind your way for a day of breeze and beauty in upcountry Maui. From Pukalani take Lower Kula Hwy South to Keokea (Kay oh Kay ah). A kid favorite playground rests on the left side of the road just after St. John's Church on the right. 100 meters further and Grandma's Coffee sits quaintly on the right side of the road.
Grandma's Coffee - Grandma's Coffee - overlooks sweeping vistas of Kaho'olawe and South Maui. You may even be able to spot your Luana Kai Maui Condo from the outdoor picnic area. Expect lots of smiles and down home treatment from Grandmas beautiful family based crew. Maybe it's the slow way of life in Keokea, maybe it's something else but you'll feel transported to a time when things were calmer and friendly smiles broke slow. Grandma's secondary specialty is baked goods. Giant cookies and over large brownies and muffins enjoyed with lemonade or coffee, sundry juices and teas, pastas, spanakopita and more. Grandma's first specialty is coffee. Organic hand roasted coffee since 1918. You'll know it when you taste it.
Ulupalakua Ranch Store - Take a step past the bustle and into the past at the Ulupalakua Ranch Store. Follow Lower Kula Highway past Grandma's Coffee and just keep on going approximately 5 miles. You can't miss the Ranch Store with its early era carvings of old paniolos sitting on the stoop. Be prepared for a delightful open grill picnic lunch. The fare varies from vegan curiosities to buffalo burgers. The views along this road are spectacular with sweeping panoramas of LaPerouse Bay To Wailuku and From Kaho'olawe to Molokai. When your done eating, step over to Tedeschi Winery.
Kula Lodge - From Paia go straight up toward Haleakala on route 37 King Kekaulike Hwy. After you get past all the pullovers for enjoying cows, horses, eucalyptus forest groves, rolling hills and stupendous views pull into Kula Lodge. Eat 3.200 ft. high as you gaze wistfully at West Maui's gorgeous spiking peaks and skies mirrored in the pacific. Sit by the fireplace or in the outdoor brick works or close to the windows. Wherever you sit, the food will taste just as good. My favorite is the Blue Cheese Burger. The gorgeous waitresses serve a variety American and local cuisine.
Kula Marketplace - Hey, don't leave the Lodge just yet. Walk down the driveway to the Kula Marketplace and pick up gourmet picnic goods for your journey to the summit. They also have gourmet food to cook back at your Maui Condo. Great cheeses, breads, chips, pastas, dips, marinades, pestos and more. Simply sumptuous fare that will leave you indulged.
We know you'll enjoy your stay and everyone here at Luana Kai Oceanfront Condo Resort is happy to help you with recommendations on favorite activities, restaurants, beaches and anything else you may want to find out. Aloha!
It has been almost a month since we returned and are ready to come back. I cannot say enough good things about our vacation at Luana Kai. It is more beautiful and relaxing than the pictures show. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful and went out of their way to direct us to different places to see and things to do. My daughter enjoyed it so much she is talking about having her wedding on Maui, assuming of course that her boyfriend asks her. With the exception of the airfare from New Jersey, vacationing at Luana Kai is cheaper than going to the New Jersey shore for a week for the same accommodations beachfront. We will be back. I not sure when, but we will return and recommend to anyone visiting Maui to stay at Luana Kai.
Sincerely, Dennis, Lori and Allison Hunt Voorhees, NJ
